Scythe courses and supply

Somerset Scythe School is here to teach and promote the use of the truly wonderful tool that is the scythe.

Quieter, more efficient and easier to use than a strimmer, the scythe is making a comeback.

Rural or urban, gardens, wildflower meadows, verges, ditches and riverbanks, graveyards, woodlands, hills and marshes: the scythe can work well anywhere and everywhere. 

What's more it requires no fossil fuels, leaves no pollutants, makes (almost) no noise, it keeps you fit and it's great fun!

Age 7 to 87+ you can learn to use a scythe. 

My  next  group  course  at  Mower  Meadow  (and  last  of  the  season)  is  planned  for  Saturday 20th  September  -  taking  bookings  now.

As  the  grass  is  now  growing  fast  after  the  long  dry  summer  I  will  be  taking  bookings  for  private  tuition  sessions  throughout  the  autumn.  If  you’re  thinking  of  booking  just  bear  in  mind  that  the  weather  may  require  some  flexibility.

You  can  scythe  happily  on  wet  grass  but  not  so  happily  in  a  downpour  or  a  blizzard!

I am a UK distributor for scythes made by the Schröckenfux factory in Austria where they have been made since 1540. Austrian scythe blades are recognized around the world as being of the highest quality.

I have a range of blades in stock to cope with varying needs and snaths (handles) for users of almost any height.

I also stock a range of sharpening equipment and other accessories.

Please  note  that  I  am  not  able  to  send  snaths  by  mail  or  courier  due  to  package  length  restrictions.
